IIM Jammu to Open An Off-Campus at Ladakh

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu is planning to open an off-campus at Ladakh. A delegation led by IIM Jammu Director BS Sahay met Lt Governor of Union Territory, Ladakh, RK Mathur, and LAHDC Leh (Hill Council), Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, Tashi Gayalson today, April 29, 2022, to discuss about the off-campus.

Speaking on the occasion, IIM Jammu Prof BS Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, said, “We at IIM Jammu are interested to open an off-campus at Ladakh. IIM Jammu being an Institute of national importance can significantly contribute to providing counselling, training, and handholding support to the Ladakhi youth for setting up MSME units in the primary sector for income generation.”

IIM Jammu director apprised the Lt Governor has discussed about their ongoing courses, newly introduced dual degree (BTech and MBA) with IIT Jammu and MBA in Hospital Administration and Healthcare Management with AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu along with the exemplary “Happiness Programme- Anandam” at the Jammu campus.

Chairman, LAHDC Leh (Hill Council) of their proposal to start an Off-Campus of IIM Jammu in Ladakh to promote the growth and development of Ladakh by taking initiatives in the areas of Financial Literacy, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, Executive Education, Advisory Services, Skill Development, etc.

RK Mathur, Lt Governor of UT of Ladakh appreciated the idea and said, “I appreciate IIM Jammu’s interest in having an off-campus at Ladakh and will in turn suggest a wholesome programme tailored to the needs of Ladakh and its youth that will enable new entrepreneurs to turn economic opportunities into real income.”

Tashi Gyalson also welcomed the idea and said, “I express my concern over local students migrating to different cities outside Ladakh and studying in premiere professional institutes amid various challenges. I instead propose to have such institutes in the UT of Ladakh that would overcome such challenges and help youth to enhance professional and develop entrepreneurship skills. Having professional skill training institutes like IIM with programmes suitable to the local environment and economic activities would gradually help in building more opportunities for the youth.”

IIT Delhi Summer Boot Camp For Class 11, 12 Students

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to organize the summer boot camp for class 11 and class 12 students. ‘Change.Makers’ is the name of this boot camp. The boot camp will be held between May 23 and June 24. Interested candidates can send their applications to the boot camp before 7th May.

Professor Pritha Chandra, Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives, IIT Delhi said: “IIT Delhi is committed to science popularisation, and with this objective in mind, has recently proposed a number of outreach initiatives including the monthly lecture series SciTech Spins for high schoolers and the STEM Mentorship Program for girl students. We are very hopeful that the DIY camp will help strengthen the ties that IIT Delhi faculty and students have already established with young minds in schools and academics in the making.”

West Bengal: Teachers Association Urges Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to re-consider summer holidays

General Secretary of Bengal Primary Teachers Association Ananda Handa said the Odisha state announced only five days break for the same reason. And the weather forecast saying that the monsoons may start in 2nd week of May.

Mr Handa said. “Both the teachers and guardians are worried over the decision of the state government to clamp a 45-day vacation which was done in haste. “As in-person classes had only commenced on February 16 after a long gap of two years, this 45-day break will severely affect the interest in studies among children,” he said.

The association said the state government had not consulted academics or experts before taking the decision which was “ill-conceived”. “Such a decision will only erode public confidence in state schools, make the general public sceptical about the state education sector and pave the way for privatisation of the sector through PPP model,” it said.

The principal of a college affiliated with Calcutta University said “given the developments, we have decided to go back to online theory classes from May 2 and conduct pending practical classes by calling students in a large group on a particular day.”

The Siddha Medical University Varsity will offer courses in AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), as per the bill tabled in the assembly by Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday. The Assembly has recently adopted two legislations to empower the Chief Minister to become the Chancellor of universities in the state, replacing the Governor and conferring powers to appoint the Vice Chancellors. As per this, CM Stalin is appointed as the Chancellor for the Siddha Medical University.  

NTA Extends Last Date of Application Process for NCHM JEE 2022

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has increased the last date of the application process of Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination, or NCHM JEE 2022. Applicants can send the NCHM JEE 2022 examination before 16th May 2022. Earlier the NTA announced the NCHM JEE last date as 3rd May. Now, it has been extended to 16th May. Candidates seeking to apply for NCHM JEE can apply on nchmjee.nta.nic.in.

 “In continuation of the Public Notice dated February 4, 2022 and pursuant to representations from the candidates, it has been decided to extend the last date for submission of online application forms for NCHM JEE-2022,” NTA on the official notice said.

The NCHM JEE 2022 exam is slated to be conducted on 18th June 2022. The exam is a computer-based test. NCHM JEE is the national-level examination conducted across India in many examination centers. Candidates seeking to get admission in the B.Sc. (Hospitality and Hotel Administration) course at the Institutes of Hotel Management (IHM) affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHM and CT) for the academic year 2022-23 can apply for the NCHM JEE examination before 16th May 2022.

Google, Telangana Government Collaborate to support entrepreneurs

Telangana state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with tech giant Google to support women and youth entrepreneurs with digital support. The Telangana state government is planning to construct a three million square foot building in the city. Google signed an MoU in presence of Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.

“A 3.3 million sq ft energy efficient campus built with sustainability will stand as a landmark for Hyderabad for decades to come.. Thanks to Google for their continued support,” Rama Rao tweeted. According to a Google release, Rama Rao unveiled the building design at the ceremony held onsite. The three million square foot building prioritises sustainability and energy efficiency throughout its design, it said.

The Telangana state government is going to extend its support for women and youth entrepreneurs with various aspects like business and financial skills training, digital support, and other facilities. Google is extending its support with its various arms to extend scholarships for Google Career Certificates to Telangana’s youth, and support women entrepreneurs. The Telangana state government is planning to improve public transportation and digital technologies in Agriculture.

Speaking after the signing of MoU, Rama Rao said Telangana and Google a great journey together. “You always had one of your largest presences in the world. You have continued to support us, our growth, the technology and IT sector. Google being Google, the leader, I think that has really helped the image of the city and the image of my state Telangana as well,” he said.

“Today, I am very pleased to share that Google is deepening its Hyderabad connection and its roots in Hyderabad through new 7.3 acre campus in Gachibowli. We have just unveiled the design for the new building. We have done the ceremonial concrete pouring as well,” he said. Through the new MoU, making a step-change in communities such as youth, women, and students and in citizen services is being focused upon.

Country Head and Vice President of Google India, Sanjay Gupta said Hyderabad has said that Hyderabad is the place of largest employee basis in India.

On the collaboration with the state government, he said, “Over the years, we have partnered with the Telangana government to bring the benefits of Google’s technologies and programs to serve the needs of people in the state.”

“Today, we are pleased to strengthen our association to support and accelerate the efforts of the Telangana government to help youth learn the right skills for employment, support women entrepreneurs with digital skills, and modernize schools for children,” he added.
